Growing up in the nineties, just before the rise of household computers and cell phones, life seemed simpler and slower. Since then, technology has only gotten faster, more efficient, and increasingly omnipresent. Today, Blum finds her thoughts fragmented, her brain overwhelmed by constant information and stimuli, and her body frayed at the edges trying to meet the cultural expectation of being available 24/7. In this body of work, Blum wrestles with the creature of time, seeking what it means to have sustainable rhythms in our modern world. She returns to the basic building blocks of color and shape to discover what is truly filling her schedule, how technology is impacting in her life, and how she can carve out moments of quiet contemplation amidst all the distractions and noise. While she doesn’t claim to have found all the answers, she continues to search for stillness in our fast-paced world and find ways to live at the speed of grace.
